The Velcon Co-718 series filter cartridges are suitable for all clay treatment equipment designed with a nominal 7"x18" cartridge. The treatment/purification media is a specially formulated blend of low-volatile material (LVM) fullerite clay designed to provide an optimal balance between adsorption capacity and water resistance. Due to its ability to prevent channel formation and its high particulate structure stability, these cartridges ensure reliable performance and long service life in the most demanding process applications.

One of the most common uses of clay boxes in jet fuel treatment is to remove surfactants from jet fuel. Surfactants may originate from the refining process or be absorbed as the jet fuel flows through multi-product pipelines (corrosion inhibitors, gasoline additives, etc.). Surfactants can ultimately cause filter/separator failure, and these devices are primarily designed to remove moisture from jet fuel. By removing surfactants from the fuel, clay boxes protect downstream filters/separators. Because clay removes surfactants through adsorption (adhesion), the residence time of the fuel in the clay (i.e., the time in contact with the clay) is critical for proper fuel treatment. Typically, a flow rate of approximately 6.5 gallons per minute (gpm) per 7" x 18" Filter Element is ideal for jet fuel.
